After a session in Sarajevo on Wednesday, the current presidency chairman and Serb representative Nebojsa Radmanovic told reporters that this position was adopted ahead of a discussion on the future of the Hague-based tribunal due to be held before the United Nations Security Council later this week.
It has been speculated that several countries, including Russia, China and Japan, would be in favour of closing the ICTY in four years' time as scheduled, regardless of whether high-profile war crimes indictees Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic can be arrested by that time.
"The Bosnian Presidency and all other bodies of the country's authorities support the work of the ICTY," Radmanovic told reporters.
The Bosnian Foreign Ministry has been instructed to inform the UN Security Council of Bosnia's official standpoint on the ICTY before the discussion, set for 15 December.
According to the existing "exit strategy" of the tribunal, the UN court is expected to complete all first-instance trials by the end of 2008 and appeals proceedings by the end of 2010, when the court is to close its doors.
The ICTY is being financed by the UN. In case Security Council permanent members such as China and the Russian Federation withhold their support, funds for the continuation of the court's operations would have to be ensured from other sources, probably from the European Union and the United States.
