Medical expert witnesses say Glavas not fit to follow proceedings

OSIJEK, Dec 11 (Hina) - Osijek County Court investigating judge Mario Kovac on Monday held a hearing in a war crimes investigation into independent Member of Parliament Branimir Glavas, Gordana Getos Magdic and another four people suspected of war crimes committed against Serb civilians from Osijek by the Drava river in 1991 and 1992, also known as the Sellotape case.

Judge Kovac questioned medical expert witnesses, internist Aleksandar Vcev and psychiatrist Pavo Filakovic, about medical findings referring to Glavas, who has been treated in Osijek's Clinical Hospital since December 2, when he was admitted after a 37-day hunger strike. The two medical experts stuck by their conclusion that Glavas was not fit to follow the proceedings in the next 30 days, Osijek County Court vice-president and spokesman Miroslav Rozac said.

Judge Kovac has not made a decision on the motion to suspend the investigation of Glavas, but before doing so, he will collect all necessary data and facts that are available, spokesman Rozac said without saying when this would happen.

Dr. Vcev told Hina that according to a combined medical report Glavas was not fit to follow the proceedings. He added that Glavas's condition additionally deteriorated overnight and that he threw up after a few sips of yogurt.

Today's hearing at the Osijek County Court was also attended by Gordana Getos Magdic, who was brought from a prison in Zagreb, her lawyer Kresimir Krsnik, and Glavas's attorneys Drazen Matijevic and Marko Dumancic.

Matijevic told Hina that Glavas's defence team last week submitted a motion to Judge Kovac requesting that the investigation in the Sellotape case be suspended for the same reason which led to the suspension of the investigation in the so-called Garage case that was conducted against Glavas before the Zagreb County Court.
