HOK President Leo Andreis said that the start of disciplinary proceedings against Marinovic had not been scheduled yet. Proceedings before a three-member disciplinary court are held behind closed doors.
Andreis would not comment on the content of the indictment against Marinovic, but stressed that it referred only to Marinovic's media statements about Magas and not to his excessive defence costs.
Marinovic represented Magas until she withdrew her power of attorney after she was sentenced to eight years in prison at a repeated trial for the murder of her husband in September this year. Marinovic afterwards stated for the media that his client was not a victim of domestic violence and that he too had contributed to her image of a victim because it was in the interest of defence.
Marinovic made the statement after the press reported that he charged Magas more than 500,000 kuna for defence.
HOK said that the bill of charges was still being examined and that after its examination a decision would be made on whether to launch proceedings against Marinovic on that account as well. According to first estimates, he charged his client too much.
The case has also affected Marinovic's wife, former Justice Minister Ingrid Anticevic-Marinovic, who resigned from her post as vice-president of the Social Democratic Party in November, stating that she did not want media insinuations about her and her husband to be used against her party.
On Wednesday, Anticevic-Marinovic also resigned to her post as president of the party branch in Zadar and coordinator in the ninth constituency.
The media have reported, among other things, that in 2002, when she was Justice Minister, Anticevic-Marinovic favoured a client of her husband's in two court cases.
HOK President Andreis said that in the process of adjusting legislation on the legal profession to EU standards he would advocate stricter penalties, including permanent removal from the register of lawyers.
