Djapic disappointed with Mesic's statement about Glavas's case

VUKOVAR, Dec 4 (Hina) - Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) chief Anto Djapic told a news conference on Monday evening that he was disappointed rather than surprised with today's reaction of President Stjepan Mesic concerning the case of independent MP Branimir Glavas because, as Djapic said, "Mesic has not reacted as clearly as he should have".

"If he intended to criticise the HSP, then President Mesic should have clearly said that," Djapic said, adding that he was outraged by the fact that nobody from the state leadership responded to today's headlines in some media qualifying the decision of an investigating judge to release Glavas from custody due to his deteriorated condition as nonsense and the breakdown of the rule of law.

If anything can be considered an attack on the independency of judiciary, it would be media headlines by which some Croatian institutions and media wanted to bury Glavas alive.

Djapic said that Davor Butkovic would be sacked from the media sector in every law-based state because if he was not able to back with arguments the position he stated in an article in Jutarnji List daily on the Glavas case.

Djapic also said he visited Glavas in the Osijek hospital earlier on Monday, adding that Glavas was shocked at the fact that "some news editors and politicians have not concealed their regret at Glavas being able now to survive."

According to the HSP leader, Glavas's condition is serious and he is suffering from depression.
