Djapic believes that his arguments with govt. would not affect Osijek projects

OSIJEK, Dec 2 (Hina) - The eastern city of Osijek on Saturday marked its day with a special session of the City Council held in the Croatian National Theatre.

The session was chaired by Mayor Anto Djapic because the chairman of the Osijek City Council, Branimir Glavas, was in detention in Zagreb on suspicion of involvement in war crimes.

Djapic said he was sorry that Glavas, who he said was on a hunger strike and was struggling for his life in the prison hospital, was not chairing the session.

The Mayor said that disagreement which occurred between his Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) and its coalition partner - the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) - over the Glavas case should not produce negative consequences for the city of Osijek.

Djapic added that the argument should not reflect on the implementation of local projects.

No representative of the Croatian government or the national parliament was present at the session.
