Interior Minister says security situation in Croatia satisfactory

VIROVITICA, Dec 1 (Hina) - Croatian Interior Minister Ivica Kirin has assessed that the security situation in the country is satisfactory.
VIROVITICA, Dec 1 (Hina) - Croatian Interior Minister Ivica Kirin has assessed that the security situation in the country is satisfactory.

Speaking to the press on Friday during a two-day annual meeting of his ministry's representatives and top police officials in the northeastern town of Virovitica, Minister Kirin described the security situation as satisfactory, and called for more caution in situations such as a recent attempted terrorist attack in the coastal city of Zadar.

"That operation can be a reminder that we must be quick and efficient," Kirin said referring to the Zadar police operation when two men with criminal records were prevented from planting an explosive device under a car in downtown Zadar.

The Croatian police chief, Marijan Benko, commended the Zadar police for succeeding in thwarting the realisation of "undesirable intentions of underworld figures".

Benko assessed this year's performance of the Croatian police as good.

"There have been several very grave crimes. We have solved a great number of them, found perpetrators and brought them to justice," he said and in this context mentioned armed robberies of Finance Agency (FINA) offices in Djurdjevac and Zagreb.
