PRISTINA, Nov 29 (Hina) - The UN Mission in Kosovo said on Wednesday that yesterday's demonstrations organised by the Self-Determination movement were violent, while movement leader Albin Kurti announced new demonstrations.

UNMIK police spokesman Thomas Lee told the press the protest announced as a peaceful demonstration turned violent, notably when the UNMIK headquarters were attacked. He said the police responded when it assessed that the lives of UNMIK personnel were in danger.

He estimated that about 2,000 people took part in the demonstrations. Police said no one was hurt but that some 80 windows were smashed on the headquarters of UNMIK and the Kosovo parliament and government. A government vehicle was damaged as well.

Kurti announced "bigger and more decisive" demonstrations. He dismissed accusations of violent demonstrations, saying the protest was well-organised and that the only incident occurred when some people, without the organisers' knowledge, stoned several buildings.

He said the protest was organised against Kosovo officials and negotiators on Kosovo's final status because they were deluding the people by promising that Kosovo would be independent.
