After meeting President Fatmir Sejdiu, Lehne said the process of defining Kosovo's status was in the final stage, that everyone agreed the current situation was untenable, and that Kosovo's political status had to be determined very soon.
Lehne said he and Sejdiu also talked about the transfer of the local UN Mission's powers to Kosovo institutions.
Sejdiu said the talks addressed international civil presence in Kosovo in the future, which would be a big help for a certain period of time and was something Kosovo institutions wanted, alongside NATO's presence, in the stage after the determination of the status.
Lehne also met Prime Minister Agim Qeku and Kosovo Democratic Party leader Hashim Thaqi. He was accompanied by Torbjorn Solstrom, envoy of the EU High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and chief of a group preparing an EU Mission for Kosovo after the determination of the status.
