ZAGREB, Nov 24 (Hina) - The Zagreb Municipal Prosecutor's Office has accused a former manager of the National Real Estate Agency (APN) of unconscientious work and of causing damage to the budget exceeding 10 million kuna.

Davor Rajcic, 49, is held responsible for the unlawful operation of the APN in the period between the start of 2001 and mid-August 2004.

An investigation into the APN was requested by the Office for the Suppression of Corruption and Organised Crime following numerous media reports and claims by parliamentary deputies from the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS), who stated that some Croatian Serb refugees had been cheated by the APN during the sale of their property.

The prosecution claims that there are 39 cases in the APN's work in which different irregularities were detected. Those irregularities caused damage to the budget exceeding 10 million kuna because sales contracts were invalid and the state could not be registered as the owner of property purchased on its behalf by the APN.

The prosecution claims that the APN also signed sales contracts for real estate whose sale had not been authorised by its owners.

The investigation into the case is under way, the Municipal Prosecutor's Office said in a statement.

More than two years ago, the media published reports about unlawful activities in the sale of property belonging to Serb refugees. SDSS deputies accused the APN of buying houses owned by Serb refugees without their consent.
