"This was a very successful attendance by our delegation at a conference that dealt with energy, a strategic issue for any country," Vukelic told Croatian reporters at the end of the conference.
The conference was attended by ministers in charge of energy and foreign affairs from most European countries, Russia and some African countries, and representatives of energy industries, international organisations, the academic community and civil society.
The meeting focused on external aspects of energy policy, with special emphasis on secure oil and natural gas supply.
"I am particularly pleased that we successfully presented major projects that are being implemented by the Croatian government and in which the EU has also shown its interest, such as the LNG terminal, the oil pipeline connecting (the Romanian Black Sea port of) Constanta and (the northern Italian Adriatic Sea port of) Trieste, and the construction of a country-wide gas network in Croatia. These projects are of strategic importance both to Croatia and the region in general," Vukelic said.
Vukelic discussed the projects with European Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs on Tuesday.
"All these projects are elements of a wider energy supply system in the EU, which was the main topic of the conference, because energy is no longer an issue that can be dealt with by each country individually," he said, adding that the projects would be financed by private investors and interested companies.
