ICTY president says Serbia and Bosnian Serb entity not cooperating with tribunal

SARAJEVO, Nov 6 (Hina) - The President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Fausto Pocar, has warned that Serbia and the Bosnian Serb entity are not cooperating with the tribunal and that their lack of cooperation is the main reason why Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic have not been arrested yet.

The Serbian authorities have not made any progress towards locating, arresting and transferring Mladic to the ICTY despite numerous promises and deadlines that have been broken. The Bosnian Serb authorities have not made any progress towards locating Radovan Karadzic either, Pocar said in an interview published in the Sarajevo-based Dnevni Avaz daily on Monday.

Judge Pocar said that only putting the remaining runaway indictees behind the bars would be sufficient for a positive assessment of cooperation with the tribunal on the part of the countries in the region.

Pocar also said that the Hague tribunal was determined to continue working until Karadzic and Mladic were put on trial in The Hague and added that he did not believe anyone was considering stopping the funding of the ICTY at present.
