"Our relations are friendly, both politically and economically," Drnovsek told the press.
He underlined that Slovenia had been first among the states which recognised Montenegro's independence to open an embassy in Podgorica.
Asked about Slovenia's assistance to Montenegro on the road to the European Union, Drnovsek said he expected Montenegro to successfully join, but added that this did not depend on Montenegro alone, but also on the EU and its capability to reform.
Vujanovic said he expected Slovenia's assistance, as a NATO member, at the alliance's forthcoming summit in Riga given that Montenegro wanted to join the Partnership for Peace programme.
Asked about outgoing Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic's decision to withdraw from the post after recent elections, Vujanovic said he had felt Djukanovic should remain prime minister but acknowledged his personal reasons for the decision.
