During its meeting in the northern Croatian town of Varazdin, the subcommission also verified a contract on the establishment of a joint consortium whose task will be to organise the embankment construction, the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management stated in a press release on Friday afternoon.
The general contractor for the ongoing reconstruction of a 3,057metre dyke is the Croatian company Vodogradnja from Varazdin, while the subcontractor will be VGP Mura company from the Slovene town of Murska Sobota.
The general contractor for the construction of the planned 3,663-metre-long dyke downstream is VGP Mura, with the said Croatian company as the subcontractor.
The consortium will receive all the necessary documentation and is expected to propose the schedule of construction within the next three days.
In the meantime, preparatory works including the building of access roads and logging are under way.
A six-member operative task force in charge of supervising the consortium's work was set up.
The costs of construction of the levees will be covered equally by the Croatian Water Management company and the Slovene Environment Protection Agency.
Late on Thursday, in the Slovene town of Otocec ob Krki, the Croatian and Slovene chairmen of the joint water management commission, Zdravko Krmek and Marko Starman, signed an agreement on the reconstruction of the embankment against flooding on the left bank of the Mura river.
The signing of the agreement followed the September 2 joint statement of Prime Ministers Sanader and Jansa.
The agreement defines the modalities of reconstruction of the embankment in the border area and funding.
The works will be carried out by a consortium consisting of Croatian company Vodogradnja d.d. and Slovene company VGP Mura d.d.
On Monday the permanent bilateral commission for the Mura River will convene in Zagreb.
