Speaking of the tension which rose ahead of local elections in Slovenia, Grabar-Kitarovic pointed to the need of refraining from pre-election politicking.
Croatia's actions in connection with recent events on the Mura river confirm that Croatia wishes to settle outstanding issues in a constructive spirit, and in the spirit of good neighbourliness it is necessary to refrain from politicking for election purposes, read the statement.
The minister said "Croatia approaches the reconstruction of the anti-flooding dyke on the Mura in the European spirit of good neighbourliness, a peaceful and orderly atmosphere to the benefit of the local population and without prejudging the final agreement on the state border on land".
The statement added this was in accordance with a joint statement the two countries' prime ministers signed on September 2 and both governments confirmed two days later.
The minister also informed the diplomats that the Croatian-Slovene subcommission for the Mura River and experts from the two countries today reached agreement on technical aspects and solutions in the construction of the levee on the left bank of the river.
