President comments on N. Korea, Croatian troops in Afghanistan, firing of journalists

ZAGREB, Oct 9 (Hina) - North Korea is a poor country which should apply its enviable development in nuclear technology to economic development and other peace purposes, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said in response to a question from the press on Monday.
ZAGREB, Oct 9 (Hina) - North Korea is a poor country which should apply its enviable development in nuclear technology to economic development and other peace purposes, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said in response to a question from the press on Monday.

Nobody is threatening North Korea today and it should redirect its nuclear potentials, Mesic said after a meeting with entrepreneurs organised by the Croatian Employers Association.

Asked to comment on the relocation of Croatian troops to a risky area in Afghanistan, Mesic said they would perform the same tasks they had at the previous location and that the relocation order had not come from Croatia but the ISAF mission's command.

Commenting on the dismissal of several journalists in the Glas Istre regional daily, Mesic said journalists should have the freedom to access information and that he was against media's editorial policies being implemented by firing journalists.

Asked to comment on the ongoing trial for the kidnapping of retired general Vladimir Zagorec's son, in which allegations had been made about murky transactions of large sums of money, the president said the allegations were just signals and that everything would probably be clearer as the investigation into the allegations and the trial proceeded.
