The spokesman for the police department in the northern Croatian Medjimurje County, Krunoslav Gosaric, said that the number of Croatian police on the border crossing was not increased following an incident which occurred on Monday, but that it was usual.
He added that the activities of Slovene police on the other side of the border seemed to be usual as well.
A source from the Croatian Water Management company said that construction works on a dyke on the left bank of the Mura river were discontinued today due to rain and not due to Monday's incident which happened when Slovene police crossed the border into Croatia. Works on the 3,100-metre dyke on the left bank of the Mura, which are being financed by the Croatian government, will be intensified.
The Medjimurje County leadership today issued a statement saying that Croatia and Slovenia were friendly countries which should solve outstanding or contentious issues through dialogue, without incidents, unilateral moves or attempts to prejudge final solutions.
