SVETI MARTIN NA MURI, Aug 29 (Hina) - Croatian workers on Tuesday continued working on the construction of a dyke on the left bank of the Mura River after four uniformed Slovene policemen yesterday raided the construction site which is on Croatia's territory.

However, the works resumed today with the presence of intervention police from both countries: Croatia and Slovenia.

No incidents have been reported so far today.

According to a police report issued by the Croatian County of Medjimurje, four Slovene policemen and a woman, probably a water-management inspector, on Monday entered a Croatian construction site along the left bank of the Mura River, near the Croatian-Slovene border crossing in Medjimurje County, and demanded that Croatian workers leave the construction site.

"One of the members of the Slovene police ordered the Croatian workers to leave the construction site and when they refused to comply he took their picture with a digital camera," the head of the office of the Medjimurje police chief, Krunoslav Gosaric, said. He added that the Slovene police headed towards the Slovene territory after the Croatian workers informed their company and the Croatian authorities of the incident.

The incident took place at 11.45 hrs Monday, some 600 metres from the Sveti Martin na Muri- Hotiza border crossing, on the left bank of the Mura River that belongs to Croatia. The workers are conducting preparations for the construction of the 3,100 metres-long dyke. The Croatian government has allocated three million kuna (some EUR415,000) for the construction of the dyke that will protect Slovene villages from floods.

The Medjumurje County police have expressed regret about the incident in light of the fact that they had been successfully cooperating with the Slovene police from Murska Sobota for years.
