ZAGREB, June 20 (Hina) - Parliament Speaker Vladimir Seks issued a message to Croatian citizens on Tuesday on the occasion of Antifascist Struggle Day, observed on June 22, in which he underlined that antifascism was an achievement written into the foundations of modern Europe, whose democratic values Croatia shared.

Seks said that by observing this national holiday, Croatia recalled its role in the World War Two struggle against the Nazis and the fascists, as well as the insufficiently recognised fact that it had one of the strongest antifascist movements in then occupied Europe.

Seks also said that Antifascist Struggle day was an opportunity to pay respect to all Croatian citizens who had actively taken part in the fight against fascism, setting the foundations on which present-day Croatia was founded.

Antifascism means democracy, freedom, tolerance, solidarity, the rejection of all forms of extremism and totalitarianism, Seks said in the note.
