LUXEMBOURG, June 12 (Hina) - The European Union has decided to
develop further relations with Montenegro as an independent and sovereign
state, considering the outcome of the referendum and the declaration of
independence by the Montenegrin parliament, foreign ministers of the 25-member
bloc concluded in Luxembourg on Monday. The EU member states will
individually recognise Montenegro in accordance with international law and
practice.
The foreign ministers also took note of the decision by the Serbian
parliament declaring Serbia as the sole successor to the State Union of Serbia
and Montenegro.
The EU Council called on Serbia and Montenegro to pursue a direct and
constructive dialogue on their future relations, noting that the EU was ready
to assist them in that effort.
