The spokesman for the Split-based company, Josip Jurisic, said the tanker "Stena Primorsk" was built for the Swedish company Concordia Maritime. The christening ceremony was attended by members of the Swedish royal family, numerous Swedish officials and a Croatian delegation led by Economy Minister Branko Vukelic and Brodosplit CEO Goran Vukasovic.
During the ceremony, the Croatian delegation presented Queen Sylvia with a replica of the St. Domnius icon.
The Stena Primorsk is the third in a series of eight oil tankers commissioned by the Swedish client.
The tanker is 183 metres long and 40 metres wide, it has a carrying capacity of 65,500 tonnes and can develop a speed of up to 14.5 knots.
A representative of Concordia Maritime said at the ceremony that the company was extremely satisfied with the quality of ships from the Split shipyard, one of which was proclaimed ship of the year in its category.
Brodosplit spokesman Jurisic said this was evidenced by the recent signing of contracts on the construction of two tankers, worth USD54.4 million each, and two optional contracts.
