BELGRADE, June 5 (Hina) - The Serbian Assembly held a special session on Monday at which it adopted a decision declaring that Serbia was the sole legal successor to the state union of Serbia and Montenegro.

The state union disintegrated after Montenegro declared independence on Saturday following an independence referendum.

The Assembly gave all relevant state bodies 45 days to take the necessary steps to assume the powers of the state union. The state bodies were also instructed to address all outstanding issues between Serbia as the successor state and Montenegro as an independent state.

After a hour-two debate, there was no quorum for a vote because deputies from the Radical Party and the Democratic Party had walked out of the Assembly.

In the end, the decision was passed unanimously, with all 126 deputies present voting in favour. The Serbian Assembly has 250 deputies.
