Sanader says govt. preparing documents on recognition of Montenegro's independence

ZAGREB, June 4 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader has said that Croatia will recognise Montenegro in the next few days and that relevant documents are being prepared.

"We will agree on the timing, but it (recognition) will definitely happen in the next few days. Whether it will happen on the same day as in the European Union, that is yet to be decided," the PM said on Sunday at a ceremony marking the 130th anniversary of the Croatian fire-fighting service.

A date of recognition is to be agreed with the President of the Republic, Sanader said.

Croatia wants to develop good relations with Montenegro and overcome all problems, considering the fact that Montenegro took part in the Great Serbian aggression on Croatia, the PM said. "Montenegro must distance itself from that, particularly from the attacks on Dubrovnik. We all know what happened, but we want to look towards the future," he added.

Asked to comment on President Stjepan Mesic's opposition to the construction of a bridge linking the Peljesac peninsula with the mainland, Sanader said that the government insisted on implementing the project. "I respect President Mesic's positions and statements, but I have a different position on this matter and the government will build the bridge."
