Croatian parliament adopts a number of reports

ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament concluded this week's session after adopting a number of reports, including those by the Office of the Ombudsman and the Ombudswoman for Gender Equality.
ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament concluded this week's session after adopting a number of reports, including those by the Office of the Ombudsman and the Ombudswoman for Gender Equality.

Deputies adopted with a majority of votes a report on the involvement of Croatian troops in the NATO-led peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan in 2005 and a report on the implementation of the mine removal plan in 2005.

The parliamentary majority rejected a proposal by a Social Democratic Party (SDP) member that the government should secure 0.5 per cent of funds from a 2007 budget for mine removal operations until the entire country was cleared of land mines.

Deputies adopted a report on the work of the Telecommunications Agency, but rejected a proposal by the Party of Rights (HSP) that the Agency should declare the firm Iskon an operator with significant market strength once it is taken over by Croatian Telecom (HT).

The Sabor ratified a treaty between Southeast European countries and the European Union on creating a regional market and mechanisms for the conveyance of natural gas and electric power, as well as a treaty establishing the European Molecular Biology Laboratory.

The bill on the foundation for Croatian war veterans and their families, the bill on the foundation for scholarships for war veterans and their children, and the bill declaring the Lastovo archipelago a nature park were sent for second reading.

A vote on amendments to the Criminal Code was postponed after the ruling Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) requested more time for consultations.
