Croatian town wins EU environmental protection award

ZAGREB/BRUSSELS, June 2 (Hina) - The northern Croatian town of Koprivnica has won an award at Green Week, the European Commission's annual exhibition and conference on environmental protection, held in Brussels from 30 May to 2 June.
ZAGREB/BRUSSELS, June 2 (Hina) - The northern Croatian town of Koprivnica has won an award at Green Week, the European Commission's annual exhibition and conference on environmental protection, held in Brussels from 30 May to 2 June.

Awards were presented to companies, schools and towns for their contribution to environmental protection.

The European business award for environmental protection was presented for outstanding achievement in the area of sustainable development. The award is presented biannually in four categories, for products, process, management and international cooperation through which companies demonstrate their interest in contributing to environmental protection.

There were 139 competitors from 23 countries in this category.

This year's winners are the German car manufacturer Volkswagen and five companies from Finland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Great Britain.

The city authorities of Copenhagen won the European Mobility Week Award for the improvement of sustainable city transport. Also awarded among 43 competitors were Koprivnica and the Hungarian capital Budapest.
