ZAGREB, May 31 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament's media committee on Wednesday held a four-hour heated debate on allegations by Croatian Television (HTV) journalist Denis Latin, who said that the national broadcasting corporation (HRT) was affected by corruption.

The committee concluded that Latin must not be harassed at his workplace after he had accused some senior HRT officials of graft.

The committee also suggested that all information about possible abuse of office should be sent to relevant HRT bodies and the Office of the State Prosecutor.

It also asked the HRT to notify it about the number of special contracts signed by HRT employees and the HRT and of their incomes regulated by such contracts.

Latin reiterated before the committee that both right and left-of-centre parties exerted pressure on HTV reporters. In this context, he mentioned the case of editor Tihomir Ladisic, who was dismissed as editor and anchorman of the political show 'Otvoreno'.

Latin also accused some members of the HRT Programmes Council of conflict of interest.

He spoke about omissions and poor performance on the HTV and said that he held HTV director Marija Nemcic accountable for that.

He also claimed that Nemcic was under the influence of Social Democratic Union (SDP) official Zeljka Antunovic.

Nemcic dismissed the accusations, saying that she had seen Antunovic only a few times.

SDP members of the committee said that this accusation was part of orchestrated attacks by some political circles against the HRT management and Programmes Council with the aim of getting a grip on the public broadcaster.

The HRT director-general, Mirko Galic, admitted that the situation in the national broadcasting company was not ideal, but he ascribed attacks to political and financial circles interested in taking control over the HRT.
