ZAGREB, May 31 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Wednesday
voiced concern over a growing number of cases of discrimination against women
in 2005, and MPs were particularly concerned to hear that the number of
reported cases of gender discrimination on the labour market and at workplace
had risen in 2005 in comparison to 2004. During a debate on the 2005
annual report presented by the Ombudswoman for Gender Equality, Gordana Lukac
Koritnik, some MPs also pointed out a problem when last year four staff in the
Office of the Omudswoman accused Lukac Koritnik of harassment.
According to some deputies, the entire case undermined confidence in
the office, while some MPs defended Lukac Kortnik saying that the accusations
were not proven and that she could not be held responsible for growing
discrimination against women.
