BELGRADE, May 9 (Hina) - Croatian Economy and Labour Minister Branko Vukelic met representatives of the Croatian community in Serbia during an official visit to Belgrade on Tuesday.

According to Vukelic, the aim of his meeting with representatives of the Croatian National Council and the Democratic Party of Croats, the only political party representing the ethnic Croats in the country, was to see how the Croatian-Serbian agreement on the rights of respective ethnic minorities was being implemented.

The agreement entered into force in mid-2005.

The talks also focused on the economic role of Croatian investments in Serbia in the context of the position of the Croatian minority, particularly in the northern province of Vojvodina.

The chairman of the Croatian National Council, Josip Zvonimir Pekanovic, pointed out good and frequent contacts with Croatian officials and business people, particularly with local officials from the neighbouring Vukovar and Osijek counties.

The chief of the Democratic Party of Croats, Petar Kuntic, said that although the normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Zagreb had not yet reached a desirable level, it was having a positive impact on the position of the Croatian community in Serbia-Montenegro.
