The convention was signed in Vienna on Friday on the margins of a conference on the role of security in relations between the European Union and its neighbours.
The signatories undertook to further enhance cooperation in combating all forms of crime and exchanging information with a view to strengthening security in the region.
Croatia and Bulgaria welcomed the document, with the Croatian Minister of the Interior, Ivica Kirin, announcing the possibility of Croatia joining the convention since it is open for signature.
Kirin said that Croatia had taken part in drafting the document and that it fully supported its implementation and the signatories.
