ZAGREB, April 27 (Hina) - The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Zagreb has issued a statement saying that the message by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad which the Iranian Ambassador to Croatia conveyed to Croatian President Stjepan Mesic in Zagreb on 13 April contained only an official invitation to the Croatian head of state to visit Iran.

The message by President Ahmadinejad included no request for President Mesic to mediate (in the conflict between Iran and the United States over a nuclear technology programme). No mention of this was made either during the Ambassador Jafar Shamsiyan's talks with Mesic, according to the statement the embassy issued on Thursday.

In response to what the Embassy called many recent speculations about the contents of the message and the meeting, the Embassy said they had tackled bilateral relations which the statement described as "good and developed" and that the two sides also show the interest in "further promotion of these relations in all segments, including political, economic and cultural".

The Embassy recalls that Iran is determined to develop its nuclear programme for peaceful purposes.
