"The number of incidents has decreased thanks to a more efficient police work and the raised awareness that inter-ethnic relations in Vojvodina represent a richness, but also a possible source of conflict," ombudsman Petar Teofilovic said speaking of his report for 2005.
Parliament speaker Bojan Kostres said the drop in the number of incidents meant that Vojvodina "is slowly going back to normal". He added the formation of a provincial police would further stabilise inter-ethnic relations.
"The provincial police would be as efficient as it was when it existed, in the 1980s, because the provincial administration is more interested in stabilising the situation in Vojvodina," said Kostres.
The president the Croat National Council, Josip Pekanovic, last week informed the European Union monitoring mission in Serbia and Montenegro that anti-Croat incidents were increasingly fewer than in recent years.
