ZAGREB, July 27 (Hina) - The Democratic Centre (DC) party has
called on the Office for the Prevention of Corruption and Organised Crime
(USKOK) to widen its investigation in Operation Maestro to include Suncani Hvar
on suspicion that the signing of a public-private partnership agreement with
this hotel complex has done great damage to Croatia. DC leader Vesna
Skare Ozbolt said in a statement on Friday there were indications that the
privatisation partner, the Orco Group, was favoured to the detriment of small
shareholders and the Croatian state.
The DC demanded that the USKOK find out who favoured the Orco Group and
made it possible for it to be awarded a favourable agreement and privileged
treatment in the privatisation of Suncani Hvar, as indicated by information
from the Croatian Privatisation Fund.
The party called on the government to make the public-private
partnership agreement public and urged the Chief State Prosecutor to examine
whether this agreement was damaging to the state.
