The US and the European members of the UN Security Council said earlier in the day they gave up a debate on a draft resolution on Kosovo indefinitely due to Russia's objections, and that instead they would initiate a new negotiating round between Belgrade and Pristina under the aegis of the Contact Group.
Kostunica said in the press release that Serbia was prepared for new negotiations and that the authorities in Belgrade insisted that the negotiations be held exclusively under the auspices of the UN Security Council.
The majority of political parties in Serbia share Kostunica's opinion and deputies in the national parliament are drawing up their own resolution on Kosovo that is expected to be discussed next week.
