Speaking to the press after meeting Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic, Scheffer told the press it was necessary to avoid unnecessary delays in finding a solution to Kosovo's status.
Jeremic said he and Scheffer were agreed that preserving peace and security was the top priority in Kosovo and the region, and underlined that the secretary-general had assured him that the KFOR peacekeepers would do their utmost to protect the Serb minority in Kosovo.
Later today, Scheffer was also scheduled to meet Serbia's President Boris Tadic and Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica.
