SARAJEVO, July 19 (Hina) - The international community's High
Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Miroslav Lajcak, said on Thursday
that European Union troops (EUFOR) must stay in the country and continue to
guarantee peace and security, EUFOR and Lajcak's office (OHR) said in a
statement. Lajcak discussed the matter with EUFOR's Operational
Commander and NATO Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General John
Reith.
"EUFOR must stay in theatre until security in Bosnia and Herzegovina
becomes fully self-sustaining," Lajcak said, adding that it was necessary "to
back up my mandate as High Representative and EU Special Representative".
OHR and EUFOR expect Bosnian authorities to prepare and adopt the
necessary legislation as soon as possible and to put mechanisms in place that
will enable them to take over these tasks from EUFOR, the statement said.
