The survey, ordered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integrations, was carried out last week, using the CATI method on a sample of 1000 citizens.
Demographically, men support the country's NATO membership in a larger number, while women generally oppose Croatia"s membership of the Alliance.
The main reasons of support are increased security, a better future, and positive consequences that membership may have on the economy.
Persons aged 35 to 44 least support membership of NATO, while those aged 18 to 24 mostly support Croatia's joining NATO.
Interestingly enough, 72% of those that oppose membership believe that Croatia would prosper from NATO membership.
Only 12.9% believe that Croatia would become a weaker and less safe country.
