Asked to comment on a statement by Social Democrats (SDP) president, Zoran Milanovic who said that after his party won the elections it would discontinue the voting rights for Bosnian Croats, Mesic said he was not satisfied with the fact that this topic had become an election topic.
"Croats are a constituent people in Bosnia-Herzegovina, as are the other two peoples in that country and they are not Croatia's diaspora. It is also a fact that the existing law defines them as the diaspora even though they are not," Mesic said.
Asked if he personally advocated that Bosnian Croats be stripped of the diaspora status, Msic said that first one must define what is the diaspora, adding however, that Croatia needed to take into consideration the political situation with Croats in Bosnia.
The president of the Democrat Centre (DC), Vesna Skare Ozbolt, said in the eastern Croatian town of Vinkovci today that making the diaspora list an issue was irrelevant, adding that her party believes that the list should not be revoked and that after the elections, politicians should discuss a more active participation of the diaspora in the politics in Croatia.
