Bavaria supports Croatia's admission to the European Union regardless of the adoption of an EU constitution, Beckstein said, adding that Bavaria did not want to see Croatia become a hostage to the political situation in the EU.
Commenting on cooperation with the Croatian police, Beckstein said that the two police forces had successfully cooperated and carried out 11 operations. He underlined cooperation in the prevention of organised crime, notably drug smuggling and money counterfeiting.
The Croatian police force is successfully adjusting to EU standards, the German official said, also commending the good economic cooperation.
