Mesic said that the two countries had good bilateral relations, adding that Germany is in the second place according to investment in Croatia and trade exchange. He said that German tourist were number one guests in Croatia according to the number of tourist arrivals, read a statement issued by the Croatian President's Office.
Mesic said Germany was one of the first countries to recognise the new situation in the early 1990s. Croatia today is a country adopting European standards, Mesic said, adding that Croatian state and national interest was the return of all refugees and displaced persons. He underlined that one of the conditions for the safe return was removing mines from all areas. Mesic said it was also important to launch the economy because it is the only way to secure prosperity.
Lammert said that Germany, the current EU president, invested a lot of efforts in finding institutional solutions for the functioning of the European Inion, adding that the bloc was a political community which must have dirt criteria which everyone must meet.
Croatian PM Sanader and Bundestag president Lammert talked about Croatia's path to the full membership of the European Union and NATO and Croatia's role in Southeast Europe, the Croatian Government's public relations office said in a statement.
Dermany strongly supports Croatia's joining the European Union as soon as possible and hails progress the country has made in implementing reforms and accession talks. Germany believes that during the coming EU summit, to be held in Brussels in June, member states would agree on key issues concerning the constitutional foundations of the bloc, the statement said.
Sanader highlighted that Croatia was interested in quality negotiation talks and continuation of its active engagement on issues concerning stability and permanent peace in Southeast Europe.
The Bundestag president also held talks with Croatian Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic. The two officials confirmed the two countries had good bilateral relations without outstanding issues.
