"No such request has been sent to the Croatian government, and if it were, we would certainly make our position clear in public," Sanader told reporters in Zagreb, stressing that Kostunica had not called him at all.
Nacional said that on May 29 Kostunica told Sanader that Serbia would formally demand EUR 2 billion because it believed that it had a rightful claim to the shares of Zagrebacka Banka based on the assets of the former Jugobanka within Zagrebacka Banka.
Asked to comment on Opposition calls for the replacement of the Minister of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development, Bozidar Kalmeta, because of the alleged involvement of his driver in racketeering, Sanader said that there was no reason for that because Kalmeta was supporting the investigation into the case.
"It is certainly a great success of the judiciary in Croatia. It would be disastrous for Croatia if a minister's driver were treated differently than any other citizen," the prime minister said. "The minister supports the investigation and so do I," he added.
Sanader also dismissed as speculation a newspaper article saying that Foreign Minister Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic would be sacked because she was allegedly in conflict with the head of Sanader's office, Bianca Matkovic, and Deputy Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor.
