ZAGREB, May 24 (Hina) - The majority of parliamentary parties on Thursday supported the government-sponsored bill of amendments to the law on humanitarian mine removal.

The government proposed that the bill be adopted under urgent procedure, but highlighted that the 300 million kuna per year earmarked from the state budget were not sufficient for clearing Croatia of mines.

The bill of amendments is aimed at enabling a more rational and efficient demining procedure.

The Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) objected to the adoption of the amendments under urgent procedure and requested that regular proceedings be held.

All parliamentary parties that participated in the debate expressed dissatisfaction with the current pace of mine removal in Croatia, saying that should the country continue to remove mines at the current pace, Croatia would be free of mines in 50 years.
