The two governments held their second joint session at which Prime Ministers Ivo Sanader of Croatia and Ferenc Gyurcsany of Hungary reaffirmed "friendly, European good-neighbourly relations".
Croatia's Minister of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development, Bozidar Kalmeta, and Hungary's Minister of the Economy and Transport, Janos Koka, signed an agreement amending a previous one signed in Budapest on 16 December 2004 on the construction of a border bridge on the Mura river, on a highway between Letenya and Gorican on the pan-European corridor V/b.
Koka and Croatia's Minister of the Economy, Labour and Entrepreneurship, Branko Vukelic, signed a protocol on cooperation between the two economy ministries.
Croatian Culture Minister Bozo Biskupic and Hungarian Education and Culture Minister Istvan Hiller signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the two governments in European cultural issues.
A declaration of intent to cooperate in national and regional development policies was signed by Martina Dalic, state secretary at Croatia's State Office for the Development Strategy and Coordination of European Union Funds, and Gordon Bajnai, the Hungarian government's commissioner for the development policy.
Antun Palaric, state secretary at the Croatian State Administration Office, and Monika Lamperth, Hungary's minister of local self-government and regional development, signed an agreement on cooperation of local self-government units.
Addressing the joint government session, Croatian PM Sanader said the past and the future called on Croatia and Hungary to intensify cooperation, which he added was now taking place also within European frameworks.
The European dimension is the most important framework not only for bilateral cooperation but also for cooperation in the region, he said.
Gyurcsany confirmed that Hungary was attached to that European concept and that Budapest would continue to strongly support Croatia as well as other countries on their road to the EU.
What is happening in the Balkans is very important for Europe and we have the common responsibility to support the Western Balkans, said the Hungarian PM. He added this support was not a commodity that could be bought and sold because Hungary did not want anything in return for it. That is our indisputable political responsibility, he said and also underlined the importance of regular meetings, dialogue and contacts among neighbours.
The two premiers also said that the agreements from the previous joint session of the Hungarian and Croatian governments, held in Budapest in January 2006, had been implemented.
The Hungarian delegation also visited the Croatian State Archive.
