ZAGREB, May 17 (Hina) - An association of war veterans from Zagreb
who had defended the eastern town of Vukovar in the early 1990s war has
requested the competent prosecutor's office to strip retired generals Vladimir
Zagorec and Branimir Glavas of decorations over the "contempt shown towards the
Croatian legal system". The association based its request on
Article 36 of the law on state decorations, association president Damir
Jasarevic told the press on Thursday, underlining that this did not constitute
stripping of rank.
Jasarevic said that Zagorec, by failing to attend an investigative
hearing, and Glavas, by going on a hunger strike, had shown contempt and
disrespect for the Croatian legal system.
"Everyone in Croatia has the duty to respect the legal system and there
must be no exception," he said, adding that the association had notified the
competent prosecutor's office about its request.
