Gruevski and Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Ceku said Kosovo-Macedonia relations were increasingly improving and that the two sides were interested in advancing them further in all areas.
"We are expecting a UN Security Council resolution that will recognise Kosovo's independence, and we see Macedonia as a strategic partner for the preservation of peace and stability in the region," Ceku said after the talks, adding that the common future of Kosovo and Macedonia as well as the entire region was membership of the European Union and NATO.
Gruevski said the Macedonian government supported Ahtisaari's plan for Kosovo because apart from resolving numerous significant issues it also resolved the issue of the Kosovo-Macedonia border.
Gruevski said his cabinet shared the Kosovo government's European orientation and that he and Ceku had agreed to intensify cooperation.
The Macedonian premier also met Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu and the UN civil administrator of the province, Joachim Ruecker.
