Mesic expressed regret at the stagnation of economic relations, which he said had good development prospects after a visit by former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami to Croatia, the Office of the President said in a statement.
The crisis in the Middle East, which also causes problems outside that region, is possible to resolve only through talks, by respecting Israel's right to existence and the Palestinians' right to their own state, Mesic said.
The president of the Iranian-Croatian Friendship Group, Seyed Ali Riyaz, expressed a wish for the promotion of bilateral relations.
He said that his country addressed problems from an independent position, adding that Iran had never started a war in its history, that it did not want war and had no intention of developing nuclear weapons.
