Sejdiu, however, did not rule out the possibility of the Kosovo Assembly declaring independence, but noted that it would be done only in consultation with countries that supported such a status for Kosovo.
Sejdiu was speaking to reporters after a meeting between Kosovo's negotiating team and representatives of the UN administration in Kosovo, which focused on a forthcoming visit of a UN mission to Kosovo.
Ambassadors of the 15 Security Council member states are due in Kosovo on April 26 and 27 to gain a first-hand insight into the situation in the province and to verify compliance with international standards, particularly those relating to the position and protection of minorities.
The Security Council has decided to send a special mission to Kosovo before adopting a new resolution that would define the province's status.
