The UN resolution is the right way to solve this issue so that both Belgrade and Pristina could move forward. I can see no reason why it would not be adopted, Polt told reporters.
Commenting on announcements that Russia might use its veto in the UN Security Council to block the adoption of the Kosovo status plan proposed by UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari, Polt said that the US had constructively cooperated with Russia within the big-power Contact Group for Kosovo and outside it.
I firmly believe we all want a good future for Serbia and Kosovo. Russia and the US only differ in how to reach that goal. We hope and we believe that we will be able to agree on achieving that goal by this summer, the US ambassador said.
Polt avoided responding to a reporter's question whether the US would recognise Kosovo as an independent state regardless of a UN decision, only saying that a UN resolution was the best way of resolving the Kosovo issue.
