Saturday's issue of the Albanian daily Koha Ditore reports that the UN fact-finding mission can be expected in Kosovo on 19 April to collect evidence on the ground before the Security Council decides on the final status of this UN-administered province.
The daily quoted an unnamed source from as saying that the UN delegation would also visit Serbia.
According to the same source, the mission would be led by a diplomat from a non-European country that is not a permanent member of the UN Security Council, In this way, the mission would not be led either by the United States that supports Kosovo's independence or by the Russian Federation that is seen as an ally of Serbia, which does not want to give up from Kosovo.
Last Tuesday, the UN Security Council held a closed-door meeting with consultations on a blueprint drafted by UN Special Envoy Marrti Ahtissari on Kosovo's final status. The former Finnish presidents recommends an internationally supervised independence of Kosovo.
After the consultations it was announced that the UN delegation would visit Kosovo to check the state of affairs in the region.
