The declaration has made no explicit reference to the province's independence.
The adopted document expresses the confidence that the proposal made by former Finnish President presents a fair and balanced solution which is in accordance with the will of Kosovo citizens.
According to the declaration, Kosovo is ready to assume all commitments that may stem from the United Nations Security Council decisions and it also backs the engagement of international civilian and security forces in Kosovo.
After today's parliamentary session, Parliament Speaker Kole Berisha said that this was a historic moment when Kosovo should demonstrate its ability to behave as an independent and democratic country willing to cooperate with its neighbour, Europe and the rest of the world.
Against a backdrop of Russia's proposal for a new UN mission to be sent to Kosovo to check the situation on the ground, the UN Civilian Administrator Joachim Ruecker said that every member of the Security Council had the right to come to Kosovo but that there was no reason for the engagement of any special UN mission.
Addressing students of the Pristina University, Ruecker said on Thursday that the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) informed on a regular basis UN bodies about the implementation of Resolution 1244.
