The proposal was not discarded yesterday. The (UN Security Council) session was not about accepting or rejecting the plan. Ahtisaari presented his proposal. The parties presented their positions and the Council discussed it, said Rosemary DiCarlo, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs.
She told reporters in Washington on Wednesday that a series of discussions could be expected in the coming weeks within the Security Council on the blueprint which the former Finnish President made for the final status of Kosovo.
She commended Ahtisaari's recommendations as a fair and balanced plan envisaging a democratic and multiethnic Kosovo.
DiCarlo added that Washington strongly supported his proposal, including recommendations for an internationally supervised independence of Kosovo.
