The German diplomat said on Monday that the model Croatia's authorities carried out in the eastern town of Vukovar after 1997 to stimulate the post-war reconstruction would be the most appropriate for Srebrenica.
Schwartz-Schilling said in an interview with Dnevni Avaz daily that proposals for taking Srebrenica away from the territorial organisation of the Republic of Srpska were unacceptable-
This town primarily needs investments and conditions for the return of refugees. This should be a model similar to the one used in Vukovar constituting a special area with many benefits. This is something from which a good deal could be made for Srebrenica, he said.
Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) councillors in the Srebrenica council last week adopted a special resolution insisting on the exclusion of Srebrenica from the Serb entity.
The resolution, adopted without the presence of local Serb councillors, is not binding.
After the International Court of Justice (ICJ) recently ruled that genocide was committed in Srebrenica in the summer of 1995 and that institutions of the Republic of Srpska should be held responsible, some Bosniak politicians interpret it as a something that gives them the reason to ask for the separation of Srebrenica from the rest of that entity.
